Climate control missing at Cadwell
While Lincolnshire appeared to have had the best weather in Britain this Bank Holiday weekend, it doesn’t necessarily mean it was good weather and for this, the 8th round of the British Superbike Championship, we experienced everything from hail to sun and back to rain.
It was always going to be a tough one for the Hardinge Sorrymate team, it is the toughest circuit of the championship and is very hard on the riders physically. It wasn’t helped when combined with the bad weather which eventually led to an extended practice on the Sunday morning.
As is becoming the norm Jenny’s times got quicker and quicker through the weekend and she battled hard in qualifying improving her lap times by over a second and a half when the conditions permitted. Unfortunately though, in Race 1, there was an issue with the front brake and as the race progressed this became more apparent and Jenny was left with no choice but to pull in. For Race 2 the team made some adjustments to the front end to try and increase the turning speed and after a much improved start where Jen gained 2 places she unfortunately started to experience a lack of front end feel and again was left with no option but to pull in.
Rider Jenny Tinmouth said:
“This was a disappointing weekend for the team as much as I love the circuit, the atmosphere and the crowds here, I always struggle. It is very hard physically on the rider as it is so technical and demanding. We have managed to learn from the changes we made with the bike though and we are coming away wiser even with the 2 DNF’s and we will move forward to Donington in a positive frame of mind. I’d just like to thank everyone who came to see me and especially my sponsors Hardinge machine Tools and Sorrymate.com.”
Crew Chief Steve Bradley said:
“We are never going to come away from a weekend with 2 DNF’s and say we are happy and that everything has gone well but we have to take the positives. It is a demanding circuit so set up was always going to be key. We tried a few things and unfortunately they didn't work but whilst we had problems with the bike Jen’s times were improving consistently over the weekend and it is also the first time she has ridden a superbike round this circuit in anger. We are learning all the time and we expect to arrive at Donnington with high expectations from both Jen and the bike as it is a more free flowing circuit and should suit her and the bike better.”
The next round is at Donnington Park 07-09 September with races being shown on British Eurosport.
